Introduction

Frenos et frusta is Latin for bits and pieces. To understand the title of this blog, a little background might be useful. In my early days of composing computer music and software development I went by the moniker 'bitsmart.' bitsmart was a play on the concept of bitwise operators in programming (NOT, AND, OR, and XOR). In keeping with the computer music and software development scope of bitsmart, I am starting this blog to explore the current state of computer music and software development, and where the two meet in the middle.

frustaration

You know what's really frustrating me? There are many open source programs and libraries that haven't maintained in months or years. Yes, there are many active projects in the community, but the code is so deprecated that it's decaying some really amazing projects lately. I can see people focusing on more pressing matters in these times, this goes for programmers too. Like a luxury we can't really fit into our time budget. I've tried to bring several projects up to date over the past few months and I feel like everything is a mess of warnings, errors, dependency issues and the like. It's frustrating! End rant. Thanks for reading. -weirdpercent
